History

The Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce has a 20-year history with the Starburst Junior Golf Classic, dating back to the fall of 1998. A committee of volunteers and Chamber staff recruited area golf courses to host the first tournament in 1999. More than 400 kids played in the very first Starburst tournament.

The tournament committee set a goal in 1998 to design and host one of the best junior tournaments in the United States. That goal included a mission statement to “host a professional looking tournament for kids ages 7 to 19.” This statement continues today as the committee and volunteers strive to host the best junior golf tournament.

Now, the tournament is limited to approximately 300 players for boys and girls ages 7 to 19. Greater Waco area courses host one of the largest junior golf tournaments in the world. Players from numerous states and other countries come to Waco to win this prestigious tournament.
